Girls Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving · Farnsworth breaks pool record as Magic cruise to a win in the pool!

While the weather outside postponed most Monticello events on Thursday afternoon, the girls swimming and diving team was on as scheduled in a home meet against Chisago Lakes. 

The girls competed extremely well all night, ultimately defeating the Wildcats 130-54. Here are a couple of highlights from the win, including a new pool record! 

The girls 200-yard medley relay teams took first, second and third in the first race of the night. The top team of Grace Farnsworth, Lorna Belchak, Jade Kopff and Emerson Brooks swam in a speedy time of 2:02.44. 

Farnsworth (2:04.30) and Julia Danielson (2:25.74) took first and second place in the 200-yard free. 

Belchak (2:25.76) took first place in the 200-yard IM while eighth-grader Alexis Welle took third place with a time of 2:41.19. 

Kopff and Danielson took first and second in the 50-yard free. Kopff’s time was 27.15 while Danielson was right behind her at 27.37. 

Marina Brown took third place in diving for the Magic with a score of 147.45. Macey Morgan (136.90) and Pearl Keene (123.60) took fifth and sixth place on the night for Monticello. 

Farnsworth broke the Monticello pool record in the 100-yard fly with a time of 58.38! Brooks took second place in the same event with a time of 1:04.22 and Adrienne Yender took fourth place with a time of 1:17.22.

Elsie Anselment won the 100-yard free with a time of 59.19. Juanel Roux took third place with a time of 1:02.73 and Hadley Branson took fourth with a time of 1:04.51. 

Belchak (6:00.96) and McKenna Biegler (6:15.48) took the top two spots in the 500-yard free. 

The team of Danielson, Roux, Branson, and Brooks took first place in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:49.49.

The 100-yard back, 100-yard breast, and the 400-yard free relay were all swam in exhibition. 

The girls are back in action on Tuesday against St. Michael-Albertville. Monticello will take the short trip to STMA HS for a battle in the pool against the Knights.
