It didn’t even take the No. 4 ranked Magic girls soccer team 15 minutes to get off to a lead vs. No. 13 Mayer-Lutheran in the first round of the Section 6A Tournament.
With 25:40 left in the first half, Senior Miah Olson was able to get one past the Crusaders goalkeeper, putting the Magic up 1-0. Four minutes later, fellow Senior Mackenzie Dunn added a second goal, sliding it past the left side of the goalkeeper and into the opposite side of the net. The Magic defense did the rest in the first half, containing Mayer-Lutheran from getting many offensive chances through much of the first 40 minutes.
The Magic dominated the second half, owning the time of possession and hitting crisp passes throughout the half as well. Olson added her second and third goals of the game to complete the hat trick while Junior goalkeeper Kallie Finkbeiner was able to complete the shutout on the night, her third of the season.
The Magic improve to 7-3-2 on the season and advance to take on the winner of MCA/Rockford on Oct. 14. That game will take place at Monticello High School, beginning at 5 p.m.
